Alan Rusbridger delivered the Andrew Olle lecture in Sydney last Friday night. It was a good night for a good cause. While those already immersed in the digital space will not necessarily have found breaking news in the lecture, the writing of the lecture and the delivery were captivating.
It was also amusing hearing older journalists laughing at all the wrong moments, eg AR: "[Twitter is] inane stuff about what twits are having for breakfast. Nothing to do with the news business." Cue disdainful laughter. AR: "Here, off the top of my head, are 15 things, which Twitter does rather effectively and which should be of the deepest interest to anyone involved in the media at any level." No laughter.
In the spirit of the times, here is a quick Wordle of the speech.
