In true global collaboration style, Way To Blue London and their Australian award-winning global digital development arm, The Project Factory, successfully designed and launched the ecommerce website for pioneering language learning system, the Michel Thomas Method in October 2018. Picking up traction globally since launch, sales on the site have increased by over 100% in the first five months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. With over 92,000 downloads and 63,500k sign ups in its lifetime, and a surge of traffic since global lockdown began, Michelthomas.com is now on track to double total sales in 2020.

Continuing their successful partnership, Way To Blue and The Project Factory have secured the global competitive tender for the mobile app development for the Michel Thomas Method, accelerating the digital reach of its revolutionary method.

The Michel Thomas Method was created over 50 years ago drawing on the principles of instructional psychology and works with the way your brain prefers to receive, store and retrieve information and has helped over 5 million people learn a new language since its global release in 1998.

“The thrill is that you’re actually figuring it out on your own. You’re engaging with another language, not just parroting it… It’s an excellent way to start, and leaves the listener thinking, Hey, Ich kann do dis,” wrote David Sedaris, in his New Yorker essay, ‘Easy, Tiger, Language Lessons on the Road.’

The Michel Thomas Method, the audio language programme, gained its global traction and popularity on sales of cassettes and CDs, but has been increasingly investing in a digital transformation to make their courses more accessible and improve overall user experience to support Thomas’s belief that learning should be about excitement, not work.

The competitive online language learning market was reportedly worth US$9.16 billion in 2018, a figure forecast to rise to more than US$20.21 billion by 2026, according to the latest market analysis from Verified Market Research. Cultural diversity and communication patterns have radically shifted and the demand for language learning programs that assist in learning a language in a matter of weeks rather than years, has accelerated.

“We chose Way To Blue for their total enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to this project. We were awed by their technical know-how and imaginative flare. The michelthomas.com website has been a huge success for us and we have total confidence that, together, we will create a game-changing app that will motivate and inspire people to speak a new language. ,” said Sarah Cole, Publishing Director, Languages, John Murray Learning, a Division of Hachette UK.

The Michel Thomas Method became a trailblazer in language learning and education. The developmental approaches used by Michel Thomas were a precursor to machine learning and built on decoding languages, by breaking them down into their most essential components, or building blocks, which the learner then reconstructs to build their knowledge.

“Michel Thomas has a rich heritage in revolutionising language learning and accelerating conceptual learning with psycholinguistics-based techniques. We are proud to be able to take these proven and fundamental language tools into the digital world, with advanced features and universal accessibility,” said MD APAC, Way To Blue & The Project Factory Katherine Robinson.

In addition to making updates and improvements on the michelthomas.com site, The Project Factory team based in Sydney, Australia in conjunction with Way To Blue’s design team out of London will develop and create a new iOS and Android apps for launch globally later this year.
