Date My Mate - The original App was a low code prototype that was develop many years ago to support a reality TV show called ‘Date My Mate’ - aimed at helping people find love.
Amazon Prime’s latest reality dating show – Date My Mate, produced by Dragonfly Film and TV– centres around a bespoke app developed for singles looking for love from the comfort of their lounge rooms, using only a dating app and the wise counsel of their mates.
In the UK, more than half of couples meet on the internet and through dating apps, but in Date My Mate (w/t), narrated by Laura Whitmore, lovelorn singles will search for their perfect partner using a bespoke dating app with a twist. From the comfort of their sofas, alongside their friends and family, the app will be visible on their living room televisions, allowing everyone to see and comment as they browse potential dates, swipe, and chat.
Approach
With the original code more than 5 years old, a complete rebuild was needed. Building on 'Honeycomb' MPF's proprietary back-end platform, using leading-edge cross-platform front-end development tech, we were able to meet the exacting deadline of the production company, while still making sure we could give the app the love it deserved!
Objective
Not only was there a critical deadline for filming, MPF had to deal with pandemic lockdowns, staff shortages and remote clients. The show relied on the app as the key tool, and this had to be easy to use, visually interesting and delivered seamlessly prior to filming. Banajay request was to completely redesign the experience, seamlessly integrate it into the format of the show and be ready in time for filming - all in a compressed 10-week timeframe.

MPF delivered a cross platform native application limited to an invitation-only group which fulfilled the audition process: allowing users to swipe, engage with others, and get matched. Additionally, a producer portal gave the client full access to view and manage users, thus supporting their filming needs
