Revolutionising Healthcare Experience and Person-Centred Practice

iMPAKT is based on a programme of research, led by Ulster University, that impacts on the health care experience for patients, families and nurses through the implementation of eight key performance indicators (KPIs). It addresses a deficit in how the quality of nursing care is measured. Implementing the KPIs generates data that nursing teams can use to critically evaluate the patient experience and make improvements to person-centred practice. The reach has extended across a range of clinical specialities, spanning the UK, Europe and Australia.

Empowering Healthcare Excellence The Transformative Impact of a KPI-driven App

  • iMPAKT captures data based on the KPI framework through various surveys.

  • Provides feedback, fostering person-centred practices using KPI-generated data.

  • A web-based dashboard generates reports and performance metrics.

  • Facilitates successful implementation of the eight KPIs.

  • Engages in critical evaluation of patient experiences, leading to practice improvements.

  • Measurement tools that makes information accessible, captured in real-time, & easily used.

  • Encourages a collaborative approach to implementing KPIs.

  • Enhances healthcare experiences through shared decision making.

A 10 years journey toward the evolution of iMPAKTful healthcare excellence

Commencing in 2012, pioneering research led to essential nursing and midwifery KPIs & measurement tools. By 2015, feasibility studies validated their application in patient experiences across the UK and Ireland. Concurrently, Ulster University's international research extended KPI validation in diverse clinical settings.

This trajectory culminated in the 2016 development of the iMPAKT app in collaboration with the School of Computing. Highlighting adaptability, the app evolved for community nursing teams in 2018 in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Building on prior findings, 2019 research delved into KPI-driven person-centred care in ambulatory chemotherapy units. 2022 marked a pivotal partnership with MPF to craft an advanced iMPAKT app for wider reach, seamlessly melding research and technological prowess.
