The Project Factory is pleased to share the launch of harm reduction and early intervention smartphone application S-Check, for Methamphetamine users. Built on behalf of St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Stimulant Services, the app guides users to reduce harmful methods of meth use and raise self-awareness to prevent long term health issues. It is designed to help manage your meth use. It acts as a buddy.
S-Check is a project devised by St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and is one of the first apps to support Methamphetamine users. It has been designed using light touch behavioural change features which focus on raising self-awareness in how to manage risks and help users to identify personal health issues relating to their drug consumption. Developed for the S-Check App Trial which is conducted by the Stimulant Treatment Program at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, UNSW Sydney, and the University of Newcastle.
The key features of the S-Check app are the questionnaires, self-constructed reminders and regular check-ins to track essentual ongoing health. The user is encouraged to regularly self- evaluate and is provided with medically determining the duty of care recommendations. Key areas of self-evaluation are drawn from the following six topics:
Physical Health
Methamphetamine Use
Psychological Wellbeing
Sexual Health
Cognitive Health
Social Health & Lifestyle
Each category features questions that can identify risky behaviours and will recommend immediate medical attention where relevant. The app also allows users to set reminders during triggering times and has short and regular check-ins to track mood, sleep and Meth use. All information in the app has been supplied by the psychological and medical teams from the St. Vincent’s Department of Drug and Alcohol abuse.
